The short answer is: Article publishing is a long term marketing strategy.
Keep in mind that when you post your articles you should do it on websites which allow you to post links within the article content. People reading the article will usually click the links to see more info and those links also improve your site popularity over the time. However you should know that on most sites the links which you will post will be marked as "no follow" and won’t increase your site popularity. Search articles directory which allow you to post links within the article content and which are not marked as no follow.
